Introduction

This policy explains what Accent Test (accenttest.app) collects when you use the accent test, what happens to your voice recording, and how advertising cookies work on this site. It applies to everything served on accenttest.app.

Your Voice Recording

The accent test only works if we can analyse what you said, so this is the part worth reading carefully.

• When you press record, the audio is captured in your browser and sent to our server as part of a single analysis request.
• Our server forwards that audio through an API gateway we operate to Google's Gemini API, which produces the accent analysis you see on screen. Once it reaches Google, the recording is handled under Google's terms for that API.
• We do not save your recording to our own storage, and we do not keep a copy after the analysis request finishes.
• We do not attach your recording to an account, a name, or an email address. You do not need to register to take the test.
• Do not read out anything you would not want processed by a third party. Please use the passage we provide rather than personal or sensitive information.

Other Information We Collect

• IP address. Read from your request and used to rate-limit the accent test so a single source cannot exhaust the service. It is stored only as part of a short-lived counter that expires automatically, and is not used to build a profile of you.
• Country and language headers. Sent by your browser and network, and used to return the analysis in a sensible language.
• Anti-abuse checks. We use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people apart from bots before running an analysis. Cloudflare processes data about the request to make that decision.
• Contact form. If you write to us, we receive the name, email address, and message you submit, so that we can reply.
• Account data. If account features are enabled and you register, we hold the email address and profile details you provide.
• Hosting. The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes requests and may log technical data as part of delivering and protecting the site.

Advertising

This site shows ads served through Google AdSense. That has some consequences you should know about:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• Ad providers may also use web beacons, pixels, device identifiers, and your IP address to deliver, measure, and limit the frequency of ads.
• We do not send your name, email address, voice recording, or accent results to any advertising provider.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand how it is used. Both set their own cookies and assign your browser a randomly generated identifier so that repeat visits and page journeys can be counted; both also receive your IP address as part of the request.

• Google Analytics reports traffic: which pages get visited, where visitors come from, and approximate location derived from the IP address.
• Microsoft Clarity goes further than aggregate counting — it records your interactions with the page (clicks, scrolling, mouse or touch movement, and the resulting page changes) and replays those sessions to us so we can find broken layouts and confusing steps.

We do not use either tool to work out who you are, and neither receives your voice recording. Note that Clarity replays the page as you saw it, so a recorded session on the accent test page will include the analysis text displayed on screen. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on; Microsoft describes Clarity's data handling in its privacy statement.

Cookies

Cookies and similar technologies are used on this site to keep your preferences (such as language and light/dark theme), to run anti-abuse checks, to measure how the site is used, and to serve advertising as described above. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies; the accent test itself will still work, but ads may become less relevant and some preferences will not persist between visits. Data Security

Requests to this site are served over HTTPS. We keep the number of systems that touch your data small, and we do not retain voice recordings after an analysis completes. No method of transmission or processing is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. Because we do not retain voice recordings and do not link test results to an identity, there is usually no stored recording to retrieve or delete.
