Cookie Policy
How we use cookies and similar technologies on our website
Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how we use cookies and similar technologies on our website. By using our website, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this policy.
What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and provide information to the website owners.
How We Use Cookies
We use cookies for the following purposes:
- Essential Cookies: These cookies are necessary for the website to function properly and cannot be switched off in our systems.
- Performance Cookies: These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site.
- Functional Cookies: These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalization.
- Targeting Cookies: These cookies may be set through our site by our advertising partners to build a profile of your interests.
Types of Cookies We Use
Essential Cookies
- Session cookies for maintaining user sessions
- Security cookies for protecting against fraud and abuse
Performance Cookies
- Analytics cookies to understand how visitors interact with our website
- Load balancing cookies to distribute traffic to servers
- First-party
att_vidcookie to count repeat usage of the accent test without third-party cookies. It expires 730 days (approximately 2 years) after being set or renewed. A page visit on a later day renews it for another 730 days with the same identifier, so repeat visits can keep that identifier in use beyond its first 2 years. This rolling cookie expiry is not the retention period for server-side event records.
The accent test and quiz also use sessionStorage (not a cookie) to keep att_funnel_session_id for the tab session, including page reloads. If that storage is unavailable, the identifier is kept only in memory for the current page lifetime; there is no localStorage fallback. Events carry this identifier plus a generated tool-view identifier and, for analysis attempts, an attempt identifier. These can still link events when cookies are unavailable, so refusing cookies does not by itself stop first-party event collection or session/view/attempt grouping. Our Privacy Policy describes these identifiers and the user-agent and country information collected alongside events.
Functional Cookies
- Preference cookies to remember your settings and choices
- Language cookies to remember your language preference
Advertising Cookies
This site shows ads through Google AdSense, which sets cookies of its own:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Ad providers may also use web beacons, pixels, and your IP address to deliver, measure, and cap the frequency of ads.
You can turn off personalised advertising in Google's ad settings, or opt out of third-party advertising cookies at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu. Our Privacy Policy describes what advertising means for your data in more detail.
